Dining at the Golden Horseshoe- Disneyland

By D’land Diva

Shhh…don’t tell anyone, but sometimes the weather at Disneyland is less than perfect. Sometimes it is raining and cold, and sometimes it is dry and 100 degrees. For these less than perfect days, my Diva tip: Spend some time at The Golden Horseshoe. This Frontierland spot is INDOORS and HEATED/ AIR CONDITIONED. It is also a fun place to eat and take in a show.

This 1850’s style saloon has plenty of indoor seating on the main floor and up on the second floor that really is a horseshoe shaped balcony. History runs deep in this place with legendary performers and a section of the balcony that used to be reserved for Walt himself to take in the show. These days the balcony seating is open to everyone, with shows by Billy Hill & the Hillbillies running several times a day. The show is an amusing mix of comedy and bluegrass music complete with a banjo or two. The audience is often encouraged to participate with clapping and singing.

Diva Tip: Shows run several times a day, so check the show listings in the program handed out at the front gates. In general, you can count on the shows being lunchtime, mid-afternoon and dinnertime. There can be a line, so plan to arrive before the show for seating.

The Golden Horseshoe is not just about the shows, however. There is plenty of yummy food to be ordered at the bar. The food is served all day, not just around showtimes, and yummy food it is! The menu changes pretty frequently, but you can almost always count on the most amazing ice cream sundaes to be on there.

As you can see, the portions are very large. They can very easily be split and maybe you can get a dessert! On this particularly cold day, I opted for the chili in a sourdough bread bowl. The bread was nice and fresh and the chili perfectly seasoned. This chili has beans and meat, and the cheese adds a nice tangy flavor to it. There is a vegetarian option at the Harbor Galley next to where the Sailing Ship Columbia is docked.

If you are looking for a place to hide from the sun or rain, this is your place! It is also a nice rest stop, and a good option if you want quick, tasty food. Enjoy!
