My family likes to have “missions” when we go to Walt Disney World.  You can find my article about my brother “Drinking Around the World” here.  Also, we have been avid searchers of “Hidden Mickeys” and if there had been something like the Phineas and Ferb: Agent P’s World Showcase Adventure when we were kids, we would have been all over it.

For our college graduation present, my roommate and I asked our parents to send us to Disney, and we started my favorite “mission” tradition.  On a very tight budget, we wanted to try something fun that wouldn’t cost us anything, so we set a goal to take our picture wearing a typical hat in each of the countries in Epcot’s World Showcase.  This task, though time consuming since it requires visiting the shops at every country, is really quite easy.  Every country pavilion sells hats.  Often, we found ourselves deciding which of the hats available best represented the country.

Now, I know that some people may worry about trying on hats because of the hibbie-jibbies caused by things like lice, and if so, this is not the game for you.  But, if like us, you are looking for a budget friendly way to expand your Disney fun, this game could be for you!  In fact, I highly recommend trying this “mission” as a free way to entertain your kids (or other members of your family who are less enthusiastic about shopping in every country.)  We also have always ended up with great photos and many of the photos we have displayed in our house from our trips to Disney are these hat photos.
Over time, we have extended the fun by putting on fun hats all over the park, not just in World Showcase.  These hats make for great pictures, but in my opinion, aren’t worth purchasing because they would rarely be worn again, if ever.  The only time we tried on hats that we ended up purchasing was a family trip in the fall when we attended Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween, and we bought costume hats that we have used again for future Halloween parties.

There are many ways you can vary the game.  You can add props (pirate props and the viking props in Norway are my favorites!), you can challenge yourselves to find as many character hats as possible, and you can try to find hats that represent every land in every theme park.  There is no wrong way to play!

If you and your family have been to Disney many times, and you are looking for a way to add some extra excitement, I highly suggest setting a goal to get as many “Hats of Disney” photos as you can.  This game would work just as well at Disneyland.  I hope you enjoy seeing how much fun you can have and all the great photos you’ll have at the end of your trip.
