The Disney Rewards Visa Credit Card by Chase Bank is a card that almost every Disney Fan is probably familiar with, but is it actually worth the benefits that are offered?

I was a freshman in college when I was allowed to get my very first credit card to use for emergencies and to buy books. To this day, I still have the credit card in my wallet, but I would not say it is the first one I pull out when I make everyday purchases.

Here are the following perks that the Disney Credit card has to offer:

Earn 1% back on everyday purchases

With the Disney Visa, for every $100 you spend you will get ONE point towards reward perks. These points can be used anywhere on Disney property, including any of the hotels, restaurants, or merchandise stores.

After about ten years of using the card as my primary credit card, I was able to earn enough points to pay for a mini vacation and stay at the Contemporary Resort with a park view. After I used up all of my points, however, I did some research into other cards, and found that there were competitors who offered greater reward points. I found one competing card that offered 1.35% and one that even had 1.75% back.

There are times, however, that Disney Visa offers promotions such as 5% back or double points when using it for items such as groceries, gas, or travel.

Save 10% every day on select merchandise purchases of $50 or more at Disney Store and DisneyStore.com

I found this to be one of the best perks the card has to offer. This is a great and easy way to get a 10% discount when you’re spending a lot in the Disney stores on Disney merchandise. Every time we have a trip to Disney World, I make sure I have this card in my wallet to save instantly when I overspend on all my Disney memorabilia. (You’d be surprised how easy it is to spend over $50 to get the discount.) So make sure that you bring your card to the park and/or stores with you to maximize this opportunity!

No Annual Fee

This benefit is only for the non-premiere members. The premiere card offers 2% in reward dollars on card purchases at gas stations, grocery stores, restaurants and most Disney locations; however, the annual fee is $49 a year.

Character Meet ‘N’ Greet exclusive for Disney Visa Card members

This is a great and easy way to meet a few of the characters without the long wait times. Every time we have gone down to Disney World in Epcot, they had a private location in Innoventions where we got to have pictures taken with some of the Fab 5. They even give you a free 5 x 7 photo included with every card presented. And for those of you who are visiting Disneyland, they also have this photoshoot option available at California Adventure. Tip: Make sure you check in advance to see what times you can have this private photo opp, as the hours are limited.

Limited Time Offers

Disney Visa also has some added perks, such as limited time offers. They will offer on-board credit on Disney Cruises and other discounts for merchandise. They will even offer VIP seats for Broadway Disney shows such as Aladdin, Mary Poppins, and The Lion King. When I hear about a Disney show I’d like to see, I check the website and am usually able to find good seats for it.

Overall, the Disney Visa is a great card to have in your wallet, but I do not recommend it as your primary card to use for purchases. There are other cards that have a higher percentage return, and it will take a long time to build enough points to use it for something like park tickets or even a stay a resort.
