What is the Croque Glace? Well it translates to grilled ice cream. Sounds strange, right? No! In Epcot, in the France Pavillion, you can try the most delicious dessert ever. (Ok, maybe not ever, but it’s one of my favorites!)

But really, “What is it?” you may ask.

Breaking it down, the croque glace is a sweet, brioche bun that is filled with ice cream and toasted. This is the perfect match because the bun is sweet, but of course is still a roll. You get a little bit of the buttery flavor that is mixed with sweetness. If you’ve never tried a brioche roll, you need to try it alone sometime because it is absolutely wonderful. Mix that with the ice cream and chocolate sauce, and it makes my mouth water just thinking about it.

So how they make this wonderful dessert begins with these ingredients:

1 Brioche Bun
1 Scoop of Ice Cream
Chocolate or Raspberry Sauce
And a toaster.

What they do is cut the brioche in half, and add a scoop of ice cream. They have lots of flavors to choose from including vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, to more unique ones like pistachio, and salted caramel. (These flavors do change though). Then they drizzle it with the sauce (I always pick chocolate because I love chocolate) and put the top of the bun on. They then move your delicious little sandwich to pretty much a panini maker for croque glace. This is a perfectly shaped maker to hold the brioche bun in with just a little over the side. They move the top of the press down to seal the edges of the brioche! So your ice cream stays inside and there is a layer of bread on the outside!

They put it into this little newspaper slip holder, and you are on your way. No need for utensils… You just bite into it, but I highly recommend having napkins!

I have had this many times and it never gets old. The brioche bun is warm, and has a little bit of crunch on the outside from the grilled bread, but the ice cream is cold so it balances everything out and it is just perfection. I love this because traditional ice cream sandwiches (like the cookie ones) are always so cold, and they hurt my teeth biting into it. With the croque glace, its warm on the outside, and cold on the inside.

They also have so many different flavors you could try a new one every time. I went during Halloween once, and they had pumpkin ice cream, and I added chocolate sauce. It was the perfect piece of Autumn and Halloween tastes.

Now that I most likely have your mouths watering, you must be asking me… WHERE CAN I FIND THIS?! No worries, I’ve got you covered! As I said, it is in Epcot, in the France Pavilion. You’ll walk into the pavilion and head to the left near the big gift shop and quick service restaurant. As you walk through the pavilion, there will be the big gift shop in front of you, a gift shop on the right, and the ice cream shop will be on the left. The shop is called “L’Artisan des Glaces”.

Now I want you to go, experience this one of a kind treat, and let me know what you think of it, and what pair you mixed up! Santé! (This means cheers in French), and have a magical time!
