There are many resorts to stay at during a visit to Walt Disney World- more than 25 actually! Each has its own unique theming and appeal. There are pros and cons to each, whether it be pricing, room size or extra amenities offered. One thing I have found in discussing Disney with others, is that everyone has their favorite resort- the resort that really feels like “home” when visiting Walt Disney World. And while my family has stayed at many of the resorts, from Value, Moderate, Deluxe and Deluxe Villas, there is one resort that remains our favorite. It is truly “home” for this ‘ohana. That resort is Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. Here is a closer look at this resort and all that it has to offer guests.

I first fell in love with the Polynesian, just from walking into the entrance. The tiki torches line the pathway to the lobby entrance, where there are waterfalls and beautiful flowers lining either side of the walkway. Each time we have stayed at the Polynesian, we have been greeted at the entrance with warm cookies (probably the reason my children love the Poly), and at check-in we have been given leis. While I will always miss the former design of the lobby, I do enjoy the open feel it now has.

We have really lucked out with our stays at the Polynesian. On our very first stay we were upgraded to a theme-park view room. We loved the size of the rooms and the theming. Watching Wishes at Magic Kingdom from our balcony was definitely amazing as well! Since that stay, we became members of the Disney Vacation Club, where our home resort is the Polynesian! Though I have not (and will probably never be able to) stay in an over-the-water bungalow, I did get the chance to tour one on our last stay, and they were very impressive.

As if the theming and rooms are not wonderful enough, the food at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is our family’s favorite as well. ‘Ohana is a must-do on our trips. For breakfast, guests can enjoy Best Friends Breakfast featuring Lilo and Stitch (and most times Mickey Mouse and Pluto as well). And while the breakfast is delicious and fun, dinner at ‘Ohana is even better! You can see a review of this meal here.  Kona Café is also a sit-down dining option (Darlin’ Diva’s review). Capt. Cooks is a quick service restaurant, which serves all meals daily, and features my favorite counter service meal at Walt Disney World- the Aloha Pork Sandwich. And guests can get Dole Whips at any time at Pineapple Lanai! There are many other great experiences at the Polynesian we have yet to explore, like Disney’s Spirit of Aloha Show and Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto.

Our children enjoy the Lava pool with the large volcano and waterslide, as well as the new children’s splash and play area. An Oasis pool is available for a more relaxed option. As with many Disney resorts on the water, many boating and fishing excursions are offered to guests. Nightly activities like Movies Under the Stars and Marshmallow Roasting are offered as well. Our family also enjoys watching the Torch Lighting Ceremony. And the most relaxing thing to do at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is to grab a chair on the beach and enjoy the sights and sounds around you- with a Dole Whip, of course!

Though we have had many memorable and enjoyable stays at many Disney resorts, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort will always be our Disney “home.” While appealing with theming, rooms, convenience on the monorail loop, delicious dining and fun activities, the most wonderful thing about the Polynesian is the memories we have made there as a family and the ones I look forward to making in the future!
