You simply CAN’T go to a Disney park and not wear ears at least once! Why, it would simply be a crime. I was given the opportunity to review a pair of hand crafted ears from CreativeEars on my most recent trip to Walt Disney World. I was torn between the Haunted Mansion ears and the Maleficent ears, I loved them both so much! I eventually chose to wear and review the Maleficent Mickey Ears because I have a strange fondness for Disney villains, though I don’t see these particular ears on the artist’s etsy shop at the moment. I do see a wide variety of pretty awesome ears, however. As a matter of fact, the shop owner and ear creator extraordinaire has over 37 different ears styles, including bands such as the one I’m wearing in the photo, Mickey baseball hat ears and even Mickey ear toddler bucket hats to protect that precious baby skin from the brutal sun.
When I received the ears in the mail, I was impressed by the care taken in the packaging. They came wrapped in plenty of bubble wrap to protect them from damage when shipping to your home. My ears came to me perfectly preserved with no damage whatsoever.
I was also impressed with the sweet thank you tag attached which said, “Thank you, Hand Made With Love Especially For You.” Though I love all of the variety of ears sold in the Disney parks, you certainly don’t see a thank you tag stating those ears are made with love on them.
The fabric of the ears are wrapped around a very sturdy headband, not the thinner bands you normally find. I really liked the sturdy, yet feminine design of them. They gave me confidence that they could stand up to all the action at the parks while still looking great.
Check out the sparkly bling in that bow! How cute is that? I wasn’t expecting quite that level of dazzle when I first ordered the ears, so I was pleasantly surprised. The Maleficent design on the fabric of the ears was beautiful as well. Both the front and back of the ears were exceedingly cute & I loved them at first sight. I also love that the ears themselves are proportionate. I’ve seen many hand-made ears on the internet, but the bulk of them seem to have overly large ears compared to the rest of the band. The size of these were perfect!
Now let’s move on to how these ears actually handled in the Walt Disney World parks. Let me state up front that at the time my family visited, it was a very rainy week. That means that I actually spent more time with a poncho hood over my head than I did with my Mickey Maleficent ears. We did have one good day at Magic Kingdom though, so I took full advantage of it by flaunting my ears. I can say, I think due to the wide band the ears are mounted on, they did not put any pressure on my head causing a headache as some ears do. They were lightweight and stayed on extremely well, not slipping off my head as some of my other ears tend to do. I rode ride after ride with no problems whatsoever, they stayed on very well. I was also complimented by several cast members on the ears, they seemed to love them as much as I did. The price of the ears on the CreativeEars etsy site are very reasonable, especially considering they are hand crafted. They range anywhere from $18 to $25. Trust me, I’ve seen much more expensive ears, so these prices seem very good to me.
All in all, I was very impressed with my first set of hand crafted Mickey ears. I would definitely order from CreativeEars again. As a matter of fact, I still see those Haunted Mansion ears on the site, so that might just be my next purchase (shhh…don’t tell my husband.) If you are interested in ordering your own ears, I encourage you to check out the etsy site by clicking here. I’m sure you will find something you love, something to express your own creativity, there are just so many to choose from.
