5 Overrrated attractions

Everyone who has been to Walt Disney World before probably has a list of their favorite rides and shows. Some attractions are so popular that the wait times get pretty ridiculous if you didn’t plan ahead with a FastPass+. However, there are some attractions that I personally find to be highly overrated. These are rides or shows that I try to avoid, or will do only if the rest of my party insists and the wait isn’t very long. Here are my top 5 overrated attractions:

1) Stitch’s Great Escape
I am normally a huge Stitch fan, but this attraction is definitely at the top of my overrated list. I wasn’t the least bit surprised to see it moved to a seasonal attraction, nor was I surprised when Disney announced it would be closing permanently. To me, I feel like the concept of this attraction is grossly outdated- ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter was considered scary by many, but simply replacing the alien from that attraction with a less scary cartoon version just wasn’t the answer. Of all the directions they could have gone with Experiment 626, locking the audience in their chair while he bounces around and belches in their face is underwhelming to this Stitch fan. I am hoping whatever replaces this attraction still incorporates Stitch, as he’s one of my favorite characters, but I feel like just about anything would be a better use of this space.

2) Dinosaur
I do not understand the appeal of this ride one bit. I am not usually prone to motion sickness, but Dinosaur makes me rather green around the gills. Perhaps it’s the combination of motion simulator, actual moving vehicle, and a plethora of flashing lights that bothers me. I have tried riding in different positions around the vehicle, but always end up feeling like I just went for a ride in a car that is in serious need of new shocks. Given the wait time this ride usually has, I am probably somewhat in the minority here. However, I am not willing to walk around with a headache the rest of the day for this one. It’s definitely a must-skip for me!

3) Frozen Ever After
I am definitely going to be in the minority on this one. We visited a few months after this attraction opened, when people where waiting 200+ minutes to check out this ride. Luckily, I was able to snag a coveted FastPass+ so we were able to ride without spending our day in line. My daughter is a huge Frozen fan, so I expected this to be one of her favorite rides. However, we both found ourselves underwhelmed with this ride. I think the concept was a good idea- Frozen is hugely popular so it made sense to include it in some attraction. However, I feel like the ride relies too heavily on video projection and even that was only partially working when we rode it. My daughter didn’t seem to love it like I thought she would either- she wouldn’t even ride it a 2nd time when we were able to get another FastPass+ reservation. Over all, it was just ok at best. I certainly wouldn’t spend much time standing for this one.

4) County Bear Jamboree
I have never been a fan of the Country Bears. I know it’s an original Walt Disney World attraction and I know Walt himself had a hand in designing the show, but it’s never appealed to me. Perhaps it’s the twangy Southern accents that I get enough of at home, or perhaps it’s the songs from the show that implant themselves in my mind and repeat for hours on end, but I have always been too happy to skip this show. Unfortunately, it’s always been one of my Dad’s favorites, so I’ve sat through it far more times than I ever wanted to.

 5) It’s Tough to Be a Bug
I have never been a huge fan of It’s a Bugs Life, but it isn’t the attraction itself that I have issue with. The movie is actually somewhat cute. The problem is the parents who drag their children kicking and screaming in to see this attraction despite warnings that it might be disturbing to certain audiences. Maybe it’s just bad luck on my part, but it never fails that we end up seated near to a wailing child who only cries louder once some of the scarier effects begin. As a parent of 2 small children, I feel bad seeing a child forced to do something they don’t want to do, so I skip this attraction because of that fact. Soarin’ Diva has some tips in her article What’s Living in the Tree of Life here.
