Launch Your Day with Disney's Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast

Every day at Walt Disney World Resort can be an adventure. There are countless things to do – attractions, characters, parades, shows, shopping, fireworks, recreation, and don’t forget dining!  If you’re looking for a great way to begin your day of exploration, try the Bon Voyage Breakfast at Trattoria al Forno. You will enjoy a wonderful meal, and even meet some characters who know a thing or two about adventure! Launch Your Day with Disney's Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast

Trattoria al Forno is located on Disney’s BoardWalk. During the evening, the menu consists of classic Italian cuisine.  You can read Pixie Dusted Diva’s review of dinner, here. But for breakfast, you’ll find a prix fixe menu offering of delightful dishes to begin your day of adventure!

Launch Your Day with Disney's Bon Voyage Adventure BreakfastWaiting for us at our table was a “Bon Voyage Adventure Journal” which can serve as a fun souvenir of your Disney adventure. It was a parchment style, Old World inspired map with prompts for journaling about your trip.  It asks questions such as “My favorite thing to do on my Disney adventure is…” and “On my Disney adventures, my favorite ride is….”  What a perfect way to keep children entertained while waiting for your breakfast!

Our server soon arrived with a frying pan full of pastries. We all appreciated the unique presentation of a frying pan! Who knew?! My favorite was the Rapunzel Starburst – it was flaky, light, and as delicious as it was beautiful!  And as for the other pastries – well let’s just say there were none left!

Since we were using the dining plan for this trip, an alcoholic beverage was included with our meal too! (See Pixie Dusted Diva’s article on the changes to the 2018 dining plan, which now includes alcohol.) I tried the Caprese Bloody Mary.  As you would expect, it had a mozzarella wedge, cherry tomato, and fresh basil as a garnish.  It was a little spicy for my tastes, my others who tried it loved it.  We also tried the Mimosa, and it was delightful!

Diva Tip: With the addition of alcohol to the dining plan, you may want to check menus before booking your meals. Not all restaurants offer alcohol, so if that is an important benefit of the dining plan for you, be sure to do your research!

Launch Your Day with Disney's Bon Voyage Adventure BreakfastWhile we sipped our drinks and waited for our entrees, Flynn Rider visited our table. Even though we didn’t have any children in our party, he still was engaging and completely in character the entire time.  Soon Rapunzel joined him, and eventually we met Ariel and Prince Eric.  We chose the Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast because it is the only character meal where you can meet some of the men of Disney movies!  It was a great choice!

Diva Tip: The Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast is the only character meal where you can meet princesses without having a park ticket. Additionally, since it features the rarely seen Flynn Rider and Prince Eric, it makes a fabulous choice for a magical meal!

King Triton’s Shipwreck al Forno

A few people in our party chose the King Triton’s Shipwreck al Forno – a calzone with scrambled eggs, bell peppers, soppressata, bacon, sausage, a blend of cheeses, and Sunday Gravy (aka marinara sauce). Everyone thought it was a winner!  Again, the presentation added to the fun: a giant trident was stuck right in the middle of the calzone. But don’t fear parents – the servers were patient while we oogled and photographed the dish, but quickly took away the trident before anyone could get accidentally injured.

I tried the Two Eggs Poached Underwater (with fennel sausage, Sunday Gravy, and parmesan cheese over golden polenta with toasted focaccia) mostly because I wanted to be adventurous, and this is not something I normally would’ve ordered. And while it was fun to try something new – pretty much the goal of any good adventure – this is not a dish I’d choose again.  There was nothing wrong with the way it was prepared, it was just a little too “gritty” for my taste.   If you like cornmeal, you’ll probably love this dish!

Two Eggs Poached Underwater

When we were finished with breakfast, we took a nice stroll across the BoardWalk and entered Epcot through the International Gateway. It was a perfect way to continue our adventure! We can’t wait to come back to Trattoria al Forno and enjoy another adventurous breakfast!
