Top 5 Disney Summer Anthems

Summer is awesome! School is out, people seem less stressed out, vacations are planned (oh hey! I know someone who’s pretty good at planning trips! Check them out here!) and it’s time to try the things you didn’t think you could do! The feelings of summer are so vast that it’s almost difficult to put words to them, but as it turns out it’s pretty easy to put music to it!

Disney music is great, and here are my top 5 tracks to add to your summer playlist be it travel, cook out, finding magic lamps or whatever you do with your time!

What Time is it (High School Musical 2)

This was probably the most obvious choice of the bunch. Love it or hate it, High School Musical is/ was a really big deal and I’d argue that the song most associated with it is probably this power anthem for summer vacation near the beginning of the second film in the trilogy. So go listen to it. If you have already, then listen to it again.

Plus, Ashley Tisdale was in it and this won’t be the last time we see her in the list I think.

This Could Possibly be the Best Day Ever (Phineas and Ferb)

Bowling For Soup graced our presence with this song every day, multiple times a day, almost non-stop in my family, at the beginning of Phineas and Ferb! This is the extended theme song from the series including a second verse, an extra bridge and a chorus played only once during the show’s entire run.

It’s kinda hard to escape this song on a list like this. I mean, the show was about doing stuff specifically for summer. So grab your I-pod, mechanical dog, and your stinky pet monkey that needs a shower and get out there for some adventure!

Speaking of your stinky pet monkey that needs a shower…

She Loves his Monkey’s Uncle (The Monkey’s Uncle)

Top five Disney Summer Anthems

The Beach Boys and Annette sing “She Loves His Monkey’s Uncle” and I’m pretty sure that these are the people who invented summer. screenshot presented for promotional purposes.

How many of you remember the movie “The Monkey’s Uncle”? Oh, you? In the Back? Well, congratulations. You need to enter into obscure Disney trivia challenges.

I didn’t know it was a movie for a very long time, but I did know about the title song from one of the many Disney collection CD’s I had growing up. Now why should you immediately look up this strange titled song that seems to have nothing to do with summer?

The Beach Boys recorded it with Annette. Nuff Said.

Summer (Now Where Do We Begin) [Phineas and Ferb: Across the Second Dimension]

It seems to be internet rules that when compiling a top 5 list you are not allowed to use two items from the same franchise, but this is my list and you can all just deal with it! If it bothers you then you should make your own top 5 list in the comments. It’ll be fun I promise.

Summer (Now Where Do We Begin) is one of the tracks from the Phineas and Ferb Movie: Across the Second Dimension. In it, Phineas and Ferb meet alternate versions of themselves who have never experienced summer, so Phineas and Ferb try to describe it in the purest way possible. Rather than being a high action anthem, this is more of a reflective look at what summer means at it’s core, and what exactly time means itself. Every moment is golden and you need to take care to not waste that time and make the most of every day.

But after today…

After Today (A Goofy Movie)

I make it a tradition on the last day of school to come home and watch A Goofy Movie. The first song of the film being “After Today” which not only pushed forward the plot but arguably did the summer anthem better than “What Time Is It” did (hence why this one is higher on the list).

Everyone gets represented in this song from the jocks to the comic nerds to the emo kids to the marching band and besides that I remember getting extremely emotional the day I watched this after I graduated high school.

Love the movie. Love the song. All of you should too. End of story.

So what is your favorite song about summer? There’s a lot I haven’t mentioned in connection to Disney Channel shows and other movies as well as originally published music through Walt Disney Records, so lets talk about this in the comments below. Let’s hear about your top 5 and until next time, thanks for joining and remember to keep wishing on stars.
