Don’t get me wrong, I love to buy souvenirs with cute Disney characters plastered all over them. However, there are some people who prefer their purchases to remind them of vacation in a more subtle way. Here are some of my favorite things to buy at Walt Disney World that don’t necessarily scream Disney unless you’re a die-hard fan, but still remind me of our trip.
Anyone who has walked past the Norway pavilion at EPCOT has smelled the delicate, floral scent of Laila. Norway’s gift shop has a whole section dedicated to this perfume, available for both women and men. The women’s version is definitely the prevailing scent of the entire pavilion. A former coworker and fellow Disney fan was the first person I know to purchase and wear Laila outside of the parks. Any time she would walk past me in the office, I would smell her perfume and instantly be transported back to EPCOT in my mind. I decided that I wanted that experience more often, so I purchased my own bottle a short time later when I visited the parks. Laila has become my favorite perfume, and something I keep on my Christmas list each year so I don’t run out.
Tea and Treats
Thanks to my Mother’s influence, I have been a fan of herbal tea as long as I can remember. One of my favorite shopping spots at Walt Disney World is The Tea Caddy at EPCOT’s United Kingdom pavilion. While Twinings tea is available online and in a few of our local stores, I feel like there’s just something special about buying it from a store that feels like it could be in England. I discovered an amazing almond chai tea the trip before last that I like to drink in my favorite Disney mug to further remind me of our trips. The Tea Caddy also has a selection of delicious English treats like McVities Penguin chocolates. My husband and I are always sure to stock up on Penguins and a few other delicious candies we have developed a love for over the years so we can enjoy them at home with our tea.
I had never heard of Basin before visiting their store at Disney Springs. I have since discovered their 2nd store on the 2nd floor of the Grand Floridian lobby. I love bath products so this store has quickly become one of my favorite destinations at Disney Springs. Basin has all kinds of cool products- bath bombs, soaps, scrubs, and more. My absolute favorite Basin product that I discovered on my last visit is their shampoo and conditioner bars. They last forever- I started using my current bars almost 6 months ago and they’re only about half gone. You just wet your hair and rub them on your hair and presto- all the suds you could hope for from shampoo. They have several different varieties for different hair types and lots of different scents. If you’re a fan of bath and body products like I am, be sure to stop by either Basin location to check them out. Basin will always remind me of Disney because that’s the only place I’ve seen that store, and it’s where I always stock up on my favorite products.
Pick a Pearl
I don’t know how I have missed it for so long, but for some reason I didn’t know the pick a pearl experience existed until right before my last trip. There are 4 locations you can visit to select a pearl- the Japan Pavilion at EPCOT, Disney Springs, Blizzard Beach, and Beach Club Resort. The Japan pavilion is perhaps the most popular because they have a little ceremony that goes along with picking a pearl. You can read about Fancy Free Diva’s experience picking at pearl at the Japan pavilion here. Japan is where I chose my pearl on our last trip, and it was an awesome experience. Although I have not yet decided what to do with my pearl in terms of turning it into jewelry, I know that every time I wear it, it will remind me of my trip to Disney.
There is an almost endless supply of beautiful home decor to be found at Walt Disney World. Some are more obviously Disney than others. I have always enjoyed Oriental decorations, so one of my favorite places to browse is the Chinese Pavilion at EPCOT. I have a beautiful piece of art working hanging in my hall that came from House of Good Fortune. No one would ever know it was a souvenir from Disney, but walking past it often reminds me of one of my favorite vacation spots.
There are several other examples I could give of undercover Disney souvenirs that I like to buy on our trips. It all comes down to the fact that Disney is a shopper’s paradise and you can find something (or several things) for everyone. Be sure to budget some spending money for your next trip and consider picking up a few items that will remind you of Disney in a subtle way!
