You’ve made your way down Sunset Boulevard, ready to head into the Twilight Zone at Tower of Terror, stopping intermittently for the obligatory photos with the famous Hollywood Tower Hotel in the background. You turn the corner, and your heart sinks. The stand-by line is way too long for the time you have, or the sun is just too hot to endure. So, you head back around the corner, and check out Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster.  Drat. That’s no good either. Now what to do?

menuWell, that’s a hard question. But I have a tip for you while you figure it out. Get some ice cream! Right there, next to Tower of Terror and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, is Hollywood Scoops,  an ice cream shop! So grab a delectable, cool, creamy treat, and relax while you contemplate your decision. Ice cream fixes everything, right? More often than I care to admit, that’s been our experience at Hollywood Studios. You’d think we would have learned by now. But maybe we just secretly like an excuse to get some ice cream.

lineThe line can sometimes seem intimidating, but we’ve usually found it to be fairly quick-moving. Don’t lose faith. Ice cream is worth it. I generally let my husband stand in line, while I try to scout out a place to sit. There are a few tables around the back of the shop, but not many, so it’s worthwhile to divide and conquer: Someone orders, someone searches for a table. Fairfax Fare, a quick service restaurant with outdoor seating is nearby, and you may be able to find a table there, but on really busy days you’ll need some pixie dust to score a table.

Disney Diva Tip: Luckily there are beautiful stone walls incorporated in the landscaping all around the seating area, and they make perfect seats. Cool. Shady. Maybe not the best for a meal, but totally works for a quick ice cream break.

apple crispHollywood Scoops serves sundaes and hand dipped ice cream cones. One of our favorites is the Brownie Sundae – a yummy, house-made brownie topped with vanilla ice cream, hot fudge and whipped cream. On our most recent visit we opted for Apple Crisp a La Mode – warm cinnamon apple slices topped with vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce, and streusel. It was a little sweet, but that didn’t stop us from finishing every bite! If you prefer something simpler, you can also choose from a cup or cone, but deciding which flavor is a little trickier. Chocolate, vanilla, orange sherbet, strawberry, cookies ‘n’ cream, mint chocolate chip, butter pecan, or, if you want to be a little healthier, fat-free no-sugar-added vanilla. Ice cream sandwiches and fresh cookies are also on the menu! All the cones and sundaes qualify as a snack credit on the Disney Dining Plan. Surely, with all these options, there will be something to satisfy everyone. Or maybe you need to try several!mint choc chip

But eventually your ice-cream will be gone, your tummy will be full, and it’s once again decision time. What’s it gonna be? Tower of Terror or Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster? Life’s full of tough choices, innit? Ohhh….Voyage of the Little Mermaid!
