Who doesn’t like a good ‘ole western? If you are looking for a great atmosphere with some great Western fare (and a little bit of attitude), then don’t hesitate to make a reservation for Whispering Canyon Café located at Walt Disney World’s Wilderness Lodge. Don’t let the name fool you though. This place is not your typical “quiet” place to eatery. It’s actually far from it! This place has it all. Games, songs, stories and a whole gang that is as sassy as they come!
Along with all that fun, they have great food!! We went for a lunch reservation and enjoyed the entire experience. They are actually open for all three meals during the day to all the hungry vacationers. (Note: If you are dining with the dining plan, each meal is only one credit for each person.) The restaurant is open to the main lobby of the Wilderness Lodge which makes it easy to see (and hear) all the fun going on during meal time.
Even with a reservation, be prepared to wait a good 10-15 minutes before being seated and if you have little ones, they have a great area to build with Lincoln Logs, because we all know how much kids LOVE to wait to eat. This extra touch is always a high mark in my book, because the environment is very family-friendly!
Now, on to the best part- the food!! It may come as a surprise to you, but we did not order what most people would on this trip. My husband and I have recently changed our eating habits to a healthier lifestyle, so we didn’t get to have the stick-to-your-ribs ribs. They are known for the All-You-Care-To-Enjoy Platter which includes the slow-smoke Pork Ribs, barbecued pulled pork, roasted chicken, and western-style sausage served with mashed Yukon potatoes, corn on the cobb, and cowboy style baked beans. Sounds extremely delicious. What my husband and I chose was actually amazing.
We both had the House-Smoked Turkey Sandwich on toasted multi-grain bread with Arugula, Tomato, and Cranberry Mayonnaise served with your choice of Home-made Idaho chips, French Fries, Sweet Potato Fries, or cucumber salad. As you can tell, I went with the cucumber salad. Both my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our sandwiches. It was one of my favorite meals the entire time we were there!
Our friend ordered the MT’s Chopped Salad and I was able to try it. It was absolutely delicious as well. If you ever wondered if you can go to Disney on a diet, it is possible. Stay tuned for upcoming articles on how my husband and I ate during our most recent trip!
If anyone in your family enjoys ketchup with their meal, well be prepared! Make sure someone asks for it, because I have no doubt, when you ask, you shall receive.
Also, with kiddos in the group, make sure when the time comes, they can grab a horse and gallop around the restaurant. Mind you, the only time this kind of behavior is allowed at the dinner table.
This restaurant has now made it onto my “If I can do it, I shall” List. And I will re-iterate, it’s a great family friendly-restaurant with fun for the kids, great food, and a little bit of sass to leave you with more than a few great memories. It’ll have you coming back for more real soon!
