There are nearly 8.5 million vegetarians and vegans in the world. The Disney parks have recently been doing a great job of adding vegetarian and vegan menus to their restaurants. Walt Disney World parks in particular have a lot of terrific options. So if you are a vegetarian or vegan planning an upcoming trip to Walt Disney World or if you are a meat eater looking for healthier options when eating in the parks, this post is for you!
First and foremost, you may wish to check on menu options and make special menu requests before your trip. You can do this by calling the Advance Dining Reservation system for table service restaurants or by calling the main switchboard and having them transfer you to a specific restaurant. You will find that most cast members and chefs are super accommodating when it comes to meeting your needs. Having this advance notice allows you to have the foods you want or need and allows the chefs time to prepare the meals for you.
You may also wish to speak to the server or chefs on your trip about vegetarian or vegan dining options. Many guests, myself included, have found that there are meals available off the menu.
For those of you that are curious about all the tasty vegetarian or vegan options available in the park, I have compiled a few suggestions:
Cosmic Ray's- Greek salad, veggie wrap and veggie burger (vegans, the bun has dairy)
Columbia Harbor House- Lighthouse sandwich. This is a tasty hummus sandwich on whole grain bread with a broccoli slaw. If you leave the slaw off the sandwich, it is vegan. This restaurant also has a vegetarian chili. If you order the Garden House Salad, order it without the chicken to make it a vegetarian option.
Crystal Palace- The buffet offers many salads, veggies and rice dishes. If you ask the chef, vegetarians and vegans can also order a special gluten free, sugar free brownie served with Tofutti ice cream dessert!
Golden Oak Outpost- Veggie flat bread
Liberty Tree Tavern- Veggie pot pie and sorbet
Main Street Ice Cream Parlor- Oh yes, you can have ice cream if you are a vegan! The ice cream parlor offers Rice Dream and Tofutti ice cream
Plaza Restaurant- Veggie sandwich. This sandwich offers fresh Mozzarella, hummus, cucumber, basil pesto, roasted red pepper, tomato and lettuce on a focaccia bread. If you are a vegan, just ask to leave off the mozzarella and pesto
Tony's Town Square- Lunch: Eggplant stack with caramelized onions, Mozzarella, Parmesan, red sauce and penne pasta. Dinner: Gnocchi with goat cheese and leek cream sauce with spinach
Various Snack Carts- Popcorn, Mickey Pretzels, and fruit are all vegan options, while the famous Dole Whip is a vegetarian option
Disney Hollywood Studios Backlot Express- Grilled veggie sandwich
Brown Derby- Cobb salad (minus the meat), noodle bowl with fried tofu
Studio Catering Company- Greek salad, grilled veggie sandwich
Toy Story Pizza Planet- Caprese salad
