Don’t dismiss the Trails End Restaurant over at Fort Wilderness as only for the outdoorsy camping brigade; believe me you’ll be glad you took the long air conditioned bus trip or the short relaxing boat ride across Bay Lake from the marina at the Magic Kingdom. And, believe it or not, it is actually the same food as they serve at the much more expensive Hoop De Doo Review.

Trails End provides each of the three square meals of the day, seemingly without end. Breakfast and dinner are served in bounteous budget conscious buffet style with Lunch as a la carte affair.

You will be cheerily welcomed by pioneer styled Cast Members smartly dressed in their red checkered aprons; then shown to your table in this very countrified barn like eatery. Last time we visited our server was a very rotund jolly gentleman who made my younger children some extra long straws (simply by joining two together), he continued this happy and gentle banter each time he visited our table; making that particular meal at Trails End have some very fond magical memories.

We are constantly reminded that Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and who wouldn’t want to start their day with extra crispy bacon, yummy potato hash and the fluffiest scrambled eggs – all served up on a tin plate! It goes without saying, Mickey waffles and other good stuff are also part of this plentiful all you can eat breakfast buffet!

If you need a relaxed lunch that is only a delightful boat ride away from the hustle and bustle of Main Street USA then look no further……you can order from a selection of burgers, sandwiches and salads; and if you’re feeling naughty try the Wilderness S’mores – a wicked blend of chocolate mouse, crackers and marshmallows!

Reservations for dinner aren’t usually necessary here. Remember that; as it’s always good to have a plan up your sleeve after a long day at the parks. In fact, it is very pleasant indeed to have to wait here because Crockett’s Tavern adjoins the restaurant – so one could purchase libations, pull up a rocking chair, and just rest those tired World weary feet until your party is called into dinner; ideal.

Good well cooked family pleasing food is how I would describe the all you can eat dinner buffet; you can chow down on hand carved roasted meats, cooked vegetables, peel and eat prawns (or shrimp, as the Americans call them), smoked pork rib and a fresh salad bar to mention but a few. For dessert you’ll find dishes like fruit pies and cobblers and for the children there is the eternal favourite ice cream factory!

I don’t know about other British folk, but I love the whole pioneer western feel of Fort Wilderness; perhaps it was due to an overdose of “Little House on the Prairie”as a child, but I do know that you won’t be disappointed when you arrive at ‘Trails End’
