Disney has their own private island in the Bahamas called Castaway Cay (pronounced Key). Since it is private, the only people on this island are Disney Cast Members or cruise line guests! It is a truly awesome experience!

This is one of those days where you want to be up and ready when the ship docks, so you can take full advantage of everything this island has to offer.Every room is provided with a room service door hanger. You can fill it out and place it on your outside door handle, to order room service for the next morning. This is a great way to wake up and start your day!

Castaway Cay is full of Disney details, big and small. One of the first things you will probably notice is the Flying Dutchman ship anchored off shore! This is the actual movie prop from the Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Very cool.

There are several different areas on the island that are set up for maximum fun, no matter what your age is.

For Kids

Scuttle’s Cove is a 1,200-square-foot soft wet deck that has fresh-water pop jets, geysers and bubblers for the little ones.

Pelican Plunge & Spring-a-Leak are huge play areas for older kids.

The Hide Out is a teen-only beach area.

For Families

Snorkeling Lagoon, Gil’s Fins and Boats where you can rent snorkel gear, kayaks, paddle-boats, & aqua trikes, for those of you searching for adventure!

Sports Beach where you can play volleyball & tether-ball.

Grouper Game Pavilion where you can play Foosball, ping-pong, pool, shuffleboard, basketball, golf wiffle-ball, & monster chess!

For Adults Only

Serenity Bay Beach which is restricted to 18 years and older. Here you can find private massage cabanas and Cast Members walking down the beach with delicious cold adult beverages. The snorkeling on this beach is amazing as well. My husband was able to walk beside me while I snorkeled far out from the shore in the crystal blue waters. You will need to take a tram to get to the side of the island where this beach is. It is away from everything else, so it’s quiet. This beach is amazingly peaceful and relaxing.

Dining & Shopping

Lunch is included on the island so you don’t have to get back on the ship.

There are two open-air all-you-can-eat BBQ dining locations, one by the family beach and one by the adult beach.

Don’t forget to stop by the gift shop, She Sells Sea Shells…and Everything Else, to find Castaway treasures only available on the island.

But wait, there’s more! Castaway Cay has port adventures too! You can feed & snorkel with stingrays, go biking around the island, go para-sailing, and even go jet skiing.

One stop you should make before your Castaway Cay day is done, is to stop by the post office. Yes, there’s a post office! Mail your friends and family (or yourself!) a postcard that will be post-marked from the island. Granted, you will be home long before the postcard arrives in the mail, but it’s a great souvenir. My husband wrote me a love letter on his postcard and had it mailed home. It was the best postcard I have ever received.

This island is a stop on most Bahamian cruises and also on some Western Caribbean, Eastern Caribbean, Panama Canal, & transatlantic cruises. Check the itinerary when you search for your cruise at http://disneycruise.disney.go.com/or be sure to mention it to your travel agent. If you don’t have a travel agent consider using the official agent for Tips from the Disney Diva, Megan Biller, from Glass Slipper Concierge. Bon Voyage!
