Mobile Ordering at Walt Disney World Resort: A FastPass+ for FoodIf you are like my family, when you enter a quick-service restaurant at Walt Disney World Resort, you play the “Divide and Conquer” game. Somebody stands in line to get the food, and somebody searches the restaurant for a place to sit.  It works and saves time, but still not ideal.

Disney has worked some of their famous magic and found a way to eliminate the time wasted in line and keep your whole family together. They’ve created a FastPass+ for food!  Mobile ordering for select quick-service restaurants is now available.  We had the chance to try it out at Satul’li Canteen, and absolutely LOVED it!

With mobile ordering, you can order your food in advance, and then go straight to a pick-up window when you arrive at the restaurant. So, while you’re working up an appetite conquering Expedition Everest, you can order your food, and then once you escape that Yeti go straight to the restaurant to pick it up.  There’s no need to stand in an ordering line once you arrive – no more games of “Divide and Conquer” – because you have a FastPass+ for your food!

Here’s how it works, step by step:

Open your My Disney Experience app, and tap on your character icon. (Mine’s Minnie in the photo.)Mobile Ordering at Walt Disney World Resort: A FastPass+ for Food

Under “My Plans,” you’ll see a button labeled “Order Food.” Mobile Ordering at Walt Disney World Resort: A FastPass+ for FoodTap there to see a list of available restaurants. When this was written Mobile Ordering was just rolling out with a few restaurants participating in each park, Satu’li Canteen, Pizzafari, Flame Tree Barbecue, and Restaurantosaurus are participating in mobile ordering at Animal Kingdom; CosmicRay’s Starlight Cafe, Pinocchio Village Haus, and Tomorrowland Terrace Restaurant are available in Magic Kingdom; and D-Luxe Burger is participating at Disney Springs. More restaurants will soon be available. The list will appear in the  MyDisneyExperience app when you click on “Order Food.”

Diva Tip: Since it’s opening Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge at times reached capacity. Even if you have a mobile order placed at Satu’li Canteen, you may not be able to enter if the area is closed. Be aware of crowd levels when placing your order! Mobile Ordering at Walt Disney World Resort: A FastPass+ for FoodOnce you’ve selected a restaurant, you’ll be directed to that restaurant’s page, and see another button labeled “Order Food.” Tap that.Mobile Ordering at Walt Disney World Resort: A FastPass+ for Food

Now you’ll be at the menu. Just select the items you want, and add them to your cart.Mobile Ordering at Walt Disney World Resort: A FastPass+ for Food

When you’ve finished filling your cart, tap on the shopping bag icon, and you’ll see a summary of your order. You can make any changes you need to here. When you’re satisfied with your order, tap “Review Order Summary” at the bottom. Mobile Ordering at Walt Disney World Resort: A FastPass+ for Food

Next, you’ll be on the Payment screen. As of now, you can only pay with a credit card or the Dining Plan. Gift cards are not an option for payment, although that will certainly be coming soon! If you’re ready to purchase, just tap! Mobile Ordering at Walt Disney World Resort: A FastPass+ for Food

You’ll get a message thanking you for your order, and asking you to tap “I’m Here, Prepare My Order” when you arrive at the restaurant.

Diva Tip: When I arrived at the restaurant, I was uncertain how to find the “I’m here” button. I asked a cast member, and they very patiently showed me I just needed to tap my character icon, then dining again, and it would appear.  As usual, if in doubt, just ask a cast member.  They are always extremely friendly, patient, and helpful!

Once you tap the “I’m Here” button, you can watch the blue line at the top of the screen. It will turn green and you’ll get a notice that your food is ready!Mobile Ordering at Walt Disney World Resort: A FastPass+ for Food

Mobile Ordering at Walt Disney World Resort: A FastPass+ for FoodTo pick up your food, just proceed to the specially marked pick-up counter. There were signs at Satu’li Canteen which directed you to either mobile ordering pick-up or the regular line. It really did feel like I had a FastPass+ as I zipped past the line, right to the counter! Show the cast member your phone, and you’ll be ready to enjoy a delicious meal!

We found the mobile ordering to be extremely convenient! We used it to simply order dessert while standing in line to enter Windtraders gift shop in Pandora.  I was able to order while in line, run into Satu’li Canteen to pick up our desserts, and then we ate them while still standing in line.  It sure made the time pass more quickly, and we loved the desserts! (Highly recommend both the Blueberry Cream Cheese Mousse and the Chocolate Cake!)

I’m really looking forward to more restaurants being added to the mobile ordering option. It will be a welcome enhancement to meal time, and allow us to get on with our adventures exploring the parks! For a complete list of participating restaurants be sure to refer to the Walt Disney World website.
