Here at Tips from the Disney Diva, we are working hard to get you the information you need to plan your trip or trips to the Disney Resorts! In the past few months, we have featured several posts about dining at Disney with special diets. We have explored dining with shellfish allergies, vegetarian and vegan diets, and gluten free diets.

Special diets are a way of life for many of us (myself included). For some, it can be a matter of life and death, so finding a way to dine on your Disney vacation is very important! This week, we had a question asking us to post an article on nut allergies at the resorts.

First and foremost, Disney is very gracious when it comes to dealing with special diets. If you have a nut allergy, your first step will be to call the resort. Ask to speak to someone about special diets. They will be able to give you information, and in some cases, can email you information about your special diet needs. Your second step will be to contact the restaurants in which you have Advanced Dining Reservations at directly. You can do this by calling the dining number and they will direct you. If you make arrangements ahead of time (give them at least 24 hours) they can prepare your meal properly. There are certain counter service places that will also be able to prepare a meal for you properly, and that information can be found  here.

Finally, you may wish to bring your own food and ask to look at menus. Each dining establishment should have a menu that you can look at before you eat. In the case of nut allergies, you may want to make your dining plans ahead of time, depending on how severe your allergy is. If you need to have nuts completely away from preparation of your meal, know that it can be done. I have gone to a restaurant before and informed my waiter that I had a milk allergy (it is more like intolerance, but they viewed it as an allergy that day which is ok) and they literally took the ingredients for my salad and prepared it in a special place to make sure there was no cross-contamination. This was on the spur of the moment, so it can be done, but it is probably best to call ahead JUST TO BE SURE.
