Looking for a fun way to get your princess ready for Pirate Night on your Disney Cruise? Book a makeover at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique!

Disney Cruise Line’s Fantasy, Dream and Magic all have a Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique on board. Most days the Fairy Godmothers-in-training are busy working their magic on children 3-12 years old transforming them into beautiful princesses and dashing knights. Packages available are similar to those found at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutiques located in the Parks or Disney Springs. (Read about Canadian Diva’s magical experience here.) But on Pirate Night, Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique itself undergoes a transformation, and becomes The Pirate League.

Our family recently sailed on the Magic and our princess granddaughter thoroughly enjoyed her makeover at The Pirates League. We booked the appointment online through the Planning Center link on Disney Cruise Line’s website. You can also book once onboard by visiting the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique or calling from your stateroom, but given its popularity advance reservations prior to embarkation are highly encouraged. If you need to cancel, just do so at least 24 hours prior to your appointment to avoid a cancellation fee.  chair

Our granddaughter, being the princess she is, opted for the Deluxe Maiden Package. It included makeup, a face gem, nail polish, lip gloss, a bandana, earring, eye patch, tattoo, coin necklace, sword and an adorable pirate princess costume. She absolutely loved it and we thought it was well worth the $99.95 price tag.

Other packages, of course, are available. The Empress Package is only $34.95, and includes all the same items as the package we chose, except the costume. And boys, naturally, have their choices too! Does your little lad dream of being Captain Jack Sparrow? No problem with the Captain’s Package ($99.95). Your buccaneer will receive a choice of pirate facial effect (Captain Jack, Captain Hook, or Blackbeard), a sword and sheath, bandana, earring, eye patch, tattoo, coin necklace and costume! If you don’t need a costume, the First Mate Package is only $34.95. (Packages and prices are subject to change. Be sure to consult the Disney Cruise Line website for your cruise’s options.)

TIP: Although the makeovers which include costumes are strictly for children 3-12 years old, the Empress and First Mate packages, which include all the makeup and pirate loot of the costume packages, are for guests of all ages!  dice

When you enter the salon, you’ll immediately notice that the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique has been tossed overboard, and The Pirates League has claimed this land! The fairy godmothers-in-training are gone, too, replaced by veteran pirate beauties ready to turn any landlubber into a salty sea-dog! We were greeted with a hearty “Ahoy, Matey!” then ushered to the dressing room so our princess could change into her pirate attire.

Since any pirate worth her salt must have a suitable pirate name, it was time to discover what we’d be calling this former princess. To reveal her name, she needed to roll the dice from a treasure box reserved for just such an occasion.   The numbers rolled are compared to a parchment scroll which has a name for every possible number combination. Our granddaughter rolled a “1” and a “5” which the pirates tried to tell her was either “15” or “51.” But our little scallywag insisted it was “6” (thank you math-teacher-Grandpa!), so it was decreed her pirate name would be “Cat Firecastle.” Avast! eyes

Now that we had a name, Cat Firecastle was whisked away to continue her makeover.   She was tended to by Pirate Christina, who told her some wonderful tales of her adventures on the seas, and kept her fully enthralled and engaged. Christina brought out all kinds of make-up treasure, and Cat had some difficult choices to make.    What color of nail polish, lip gloss, eye shadow, face gem – so much booty! Pirate Christina told the backstory of the special coin necklace she put over Cat’s head, then placed the bandana and eye-patch on her.  sword And when Christina gave Cat the sword – well that was one of those magical moments you will always remember about a Disney vacation. The awe-inspired smile was enough to light up the entire room.

When the transformation was complete, Cat Firecastle had to take the pirate oath.   This, obviously, was pretty serious business, because she had to hold one hand over her heart and raise the other while she repeated after Pirate Christina and promised to be a true pirate. Completely precious!  oath

The entire experience took about 40 minutes. It was reminiscent of a visit to Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, yet the pirate twist made it an enchanting experience that had a completely different feel. I would happily recommend it to anyone  And as you can see, the results were fabulous and Cat Firecastle was a big hit when she met Pirate Minnie!
