Tom Sawyers Island is such a fun attraction and is often missed by Disney World vacationers.

Located in the Magic Kingdom, near Big Thunder Mountain, Tom Sawyers Island is a must see for all ages. To access the island you have to ride a small standing room only log ferry.

Once you arrive on the island you are able to explore at your leisure, play and even bring a picnic. This is a great spot for the children to unwind, run off some excess energy, and an even better place to have a picnic lunch or snack or take a little nap. There are several great spots throughout the island with picnic tables. There are so many caves, hide out’s and places to explore that your kids will really enjoy.

Another nice perk is that the island has bathrooms and a small playground. We spent about 40 minutes on the island. But beware, the caves are dark and could appear scary to younger children.

If you are traveling with a infant be sure to leave your stroller behind as there are lots of steps and sharp turns that make this attraction not very stroller friendly. We opted to used the baby carrier instead.

I think you will really like this small “escape” in the middle of the Magic Kingdom Chaos. To head off a kiddie meltdown head here first!
